Washington Football Team 2021 Fantasy Preview

Washington Football Team

2020 Record: 7-9

2021 Over/Under: o/u 8.5

2021 Divison Odds : +155

2021 Super Bowl Odds: +3500

As you prepare for the fantasy season, whether it be your home league, a big money squad or with us at Champions Round, we want you to be as prepared as possible heading into the season. And most of all we want to see you win!

The Washington Football Team is one of the most under appreciated teams in the NFL this season. Yes, most of their wins last season came against terrible opponents. However, this is a special defense that could end up as the best unit in the NFL this season. Meanwhile, the offense should be in a much better place with Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB.

Fitzpatrick provides an upside that could unlock the full potential of Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel and Antonio Gibson. If Washington gets even average QB out of Fitzpatrick this could be a double digit win team. Given the division that they’re in, Washington should have a chance to go 5-1 in the NFC East and make a run at the 3 or 4 seed in the NFC.

Champions Round “JUICE” Projections

2021 Expected Record: 11-6

2021 Expected Points Per Game: 26.6

2021 Expected Points Allowed Per Game: 20.5

Ryan Fitzpatrick - Rank: QB26

JUICE Projections: 336-517 Passing, 65% Completion, 3797 Passing Yds., 25 TD, 15 INT; 50 Rushing Yds, 1 Rush TD

Fitzpatrick will be playing in a scheme that won’t ask him to be the hero. That’s a good thing. It should limit his turnover worthy plays and make him much more efficient. I don’t think he has huge upside in fantasy, but should be a stable QB2 in SuperFlex formats.

Antonio Gibson - Rank: RB10

JUICE Projections: 212 carries, 954 Rushing Yds, 12 Rush TD; 46 receptions, 332 Receiving Yds, 3 Rec. TD

The former Memphis Tiger was one of the best rookies in the NFL last season and there’s no reason to believe he won’t turn into a major force in fantasy football this season. McKissic is still in Washington, which may prevent Gibson from being a true three down back, but he can still be your RB1 for sure. He has top 7 fantasy potential at the RB position this season. His ceiling could be even higher if Fitzpatrick trusts him completely coming out of the backfield.

J.D. McKissic - Rank: RB47

JUICE Projections: 95 carries, 390 Rushing Yds, 3 Rush TD; 35 receptions, 247 Receiving Yds, 1 Rec. TD

McKissic operates in the James White role in Washington and should hold on to the job for most of this season. In full PPR formats, he’s a nice RB4.

Terry McLaurin - Rank: WR7

JUICE Projections: 90 receptions, 1194 Receiving Yds, 10 Rec. TD

McLaurin should have a massive season with Fitzpatrick and I think a top 5 fantasy season at receiver is well within his range of outcomes. I love his upside this year and would love him as my WR1.

Curtis Samuel - Rank: WR36

JUICE Projections: 62 receptions, 741 Receiving Yds, 5 Rec. TD

Samuel is familiar with this scheme and does a lot of things that should be compatible with Fitzpatrick. However, he’ll be competing for targets with McLaurin, which severely limits his upside in a scheme that will also lean on Gibson a ton. There’s also the Dyami Brown issue.

Dyami Brown - Rank: WR51

JUICE Projections: 37 receptions, 564 Receiving Yds, 4 Rec. TD

Brown looks like he could be a massive steal from the 2021 draft. Washington may have found a great one and he looks like he will be the WR3 on this team. His deep play abilities are incredible and I would be buying his stock in dynasty leagues. He may even have standard league value by midseason.

Logan Thomas - Rank: TE9

JUICE Projections: 53 receptions, 564 Receiving Yds, 5 Rec. TD

Thomas had a nice breakout season in 2020. Will that continue? I don’t buy the hype. I think he’ll be serviceable in fantasy, but will not have the type of season he had with Alex Smith and company.

TL;DR 2021 Washington Football Team

  • Ryan Fitzpatrick should help upgrade McLaurin to a true WR1
  • Buy all the Antonio Gibson stock, but he’s still not quite a 1st round pick in fantasy
  • Fade Logan Thomas. Doubt he can repeat his stats from 2020.
  • Dyami Brown is a great late round flyer.

Thanks for reading and good luck in your drafts! Next Up: the Indianapolis Colts!
