Travis Etienne To Have Surgery, Likely to Miss Season
Jaguars first round running back Travis Etienne, who was expected to be a major factor for Jacksonville, is set to have surgery on a foot injury suffered Monday night against the New Orleans Saints and will likely miss the 2021 NFL Season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter first broke the news on Tuesday afternoon:
The former Clemson Tiger was a favorite of fantasy football fans and was expected to have a big role offensively for Urban Meyer’s Jaguars. Etienne was likely to split time with James Robinson at running back and also see some time at slot receiver.
Without Etienne in the picture, the fantasy stock of Robinson’s will likely go thru the roof. Here’s guessing his ADP will end up somewhere in the early 30’s by the time the season kicks off on Sept. 9. Carlos Hyde, Jacksonville’s third running back, now becomes a viable fantasy piece. Keep an eye out to see if the Jaguars bring anyone else in off the street.
At wide receiver, the stock of Marvin Jones and Laviska Shenault probably bumps up a little bit, as does DJ Chark’s. Less targets for Etienne is likely to benefit Shenault the most as he’s likely to play the slot more than Jones or Chark.
This is no doubt a devastating blow to the Jaguars and Etienne. More importantly, Trevor Lawrence loses his security blanket and his best friend on the team. How will that impact his development? Only time will tell.
