TNF Preview Panthers vs. Texans
Line: CAR -8.5
Moneyline: CAR -390
This is about as bad as it gets for a Thursday Night game, but alas here we are. What are we going to do? Not bet on it?
The Panthers are 2-0 and riding high. The offense has been fairly competent with Sam Darnold under center and the young defense has proven to be a big success early on this season. Meanwhile, the lowly Texans have been mighty impressive through two games, though the loss of Tyrod Taylor will hurt.
My assumption is that the Texans are going to want to run the ball at a high rate because Davis Mills is in at QB. The rookie started just a handful of games in college and is very raw.
Meanwhile, the Panthers defense wants you to run at them. They disguise their looks to make the run look appealing, but in reality it’s not. Houston’s likely gameplan plays into the Panthers hands significantly in this game.
The Texans defense hasn’t been stout if you look at the pure defensive scoring numbers, but on a per play basis and situationally they have been better than the scores would indicate. I expect the Panthers to have a relatively conservative gameplan. No need to launch the heavy artillery in this one.
Prediction: Carolina 24 - Houston 16
As of this writing, 72% of the bets are on Carolina, but only 42% of the money, per Action Network. That means that a lot of sharp money and bigger bets have come in on the Texans side. Are you riding with the pros or the joes?
