Gambling With Gold MNF Preview Saints vs. Seahawks

New Orleans Saints (3-2) vs. Seattle Seahawks (2-4)

Line: NO -4

Total: 41.5

The Seahawks desperately need a win on Monday Night Football against the New Orleans Saints. The team almost snuck out a win in Geno Smith’s first start last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers; however, they fell short in overtime. The Saints are coming off of a bye week and should be refreshed and ready to roll. They also had 7 players come off of IR during the bye and expect to get Michael Thomas back in the near future. In other words, things are looking up in New Orleans.

The biggest advantage the Saints have in this game is a healthy and rested defense that is already one of the better units in the league. If Russell Wilson were playing, this would be a fun matchup. With Smith, although he’s been serviceable thus far, the Saints should be able to dictate the game. The Seahawks rushing attack looked really good last week against Pittsburgh, but I don’t expect that to continue this week. Can Seattle get an elite game out of Smith with D.K. and Lockett going up against the Saints secondary? Can the Seahawks line hold up against this elite defensive front? We’ll see. But I wouldn’t bet on it.

The Saints offense has been relatively conservative this year with Jameis Winston under center. That’s a good thing. We know what Jameis can do to an offense when he has free reign. Turnover city. Alvin Kamara should be able to exploit this Seattle defense and I expect him to have his biggest game of the season. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kamara put up 25+ points in fantasy on Monday Night.

Sean Payton is only 8-8 against the spread coming off a bye since 2005, per Action Network, but he is 37-18-1 against the spread since 2005 in the month of October. Betting on Jameis Winston as a road favorite is never a GOOD idea, but I can’t help myself here. New Orleans needs a win in order to keep up in the NFC playoff race, while the Seahawks are pretty much done. I think New Orleans comes out and dominates early.

Prediction: Saints 27 - Seahawks 20
