Gambling With Gold TNF Preview Packers vs. Cardinals

Green Bay Packers (6-1) vs. Arizona Cardinals (7-0)

Line: ARI -6.5

Total: 50.5

The Packers and Cardinals are two of the best teams in the NFL and face off for what is absolutely one of the best Thursday Night football games in recent memory. Unfortunately for the Packers, the team got hit by COVID this week and they’ll be without numerous members of the team and coaching staff, including Davante Adams.

Green Bay still has a solid defense that should be able to contain some of what the Cardinals want to do. Their pass rash should be able to force Kyler Murray out of the pocket, but can their linebackers get Murray down or cover long enough for the front line to get home? I’m not sure. But I do think the Packers will give the Cardinals some fits. I do not anticipate this being a super high scoring affair.

On the other side of the ball, the Packers offense will obviously suffer without Adams in the lineup. To make matters worse, GB will be without Allen Lazard and MVS, as well. So that leaves Randall Cobb as the most reliable receiver on the team, with Equanimeous St. Brown filling in as the number two. That is not a sentence that should ever be written, but here we are.

Rodgers has still produced relatively elite passing numbers without Adams on the field, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him have a good day. He still has Robert Tonyan, who should get a big target share tonight, and the Packers have a massive edge on the ground. The Cardinals are one of the worst teams in the NFL at stopping explosive running plays. Aaron Jones, who figures to be heavily involved in the passing game, should have a big night, while A.J. Dillon will probably find some nice success on the ground, as well.

I really want to take the Packers to win this game outright. I do think, even without Adams, they have some advantages in this game that they can exploit. But on a short week, going on the road, I think the Cardinals have just enough offensive firepower to get it done and bring home the victory. Give me the Packers with the spread and the under, but Arizona moves to 8-0.

Prediction: Cardinals 26 - Packers 23
