Gambling With Gold TNF Preview Jets vs. Colts
New York Jets (2-5) vs. Indianapolis Colts (3-5)
Line: IND -10.5
We’re back to the sleepy Thursday night slate. The Jets are fresh off a giant win in New York against the Bengals, while the Colts dominated the first quarter against the Titans before taking a giant dump down the stretch and losing to their division rivals, dropping them to 3-5.
As of this writing on Thursday morning, 57% of the bets are coming in on the Jets, while 77% of the money is on the Colts, per the Action Network. This is shaping up as a pros vs. joes game. The sharps are on Indianapolis, the public is on the Jets.
The Jets will be starting the legend, aka the White Lotus, Mike White on Thursday night in Indy. White led the NFL in passing yards last week and was absolutely elite in the fourth quarter against Cincinnati. Can that continue? I find it highly unlikely. White is still a career backup and the Jets have deficiencies all over the offense. The Colts defense is likely to expose those holes on a short week with limited time to prepare. That being said, the Jets and White did do some good thing last week, including targeting Michael Carter out of the backfield. Can they utilize their short aDot to find success again? I don’t see it.
On the other side of the ball, the Colts came out firing last season against Tennessee. Then Carson Wentz reverted back to bad Carson Wentz and it all fell apart. Wentz threw some of the worst interceptions these eyes have seen this season against the Titans. It’s always a risk when you bet on Indy that Wentz is just going to make these horrible mistakes that cost you the win. Welcome to gambling!
I believe the Colts will lean heavily on their run game Thursday night. Quenton Nelson and Braden Smith will be back, TY Hilton will be out and the coaching staff has to have some reservations about letting Wentz air it out. This sets up as a perfect monster Jonathan Taylor game.
The Colts should dominate the time of possession and I don’t think the Jets have enough fire power on either side of the ball to make this really competitive. I’m buying low on the Colts and selling high on Mike White and the Jets.
Prediction: IND 27 - NYJ 13
Michael Carter under 40.5 receiving yards
Michael Carter under 4.5 receptions
Jonathan Taylor over 85.5 rushing yards
